Penny Lane is in my heart!

It’s Sunday on the Family Day week-end. What better way to spend it than going to visit the Penny Lane Farm Sanctuary. Today marked our second visit. Located at 1795 Du Lac Rd, Saint-Pascal-Baylon, East of Orléans, this place is wonderful to visit. Keep up with their activities: https://pennylanefarmsanctuary.com/ It’s great family time.

Perfect Family Day

They offer a nice fire pit, warm drinks, tasty goodies provided by Strawberry Blonde Bakery that are safe for most food allergic people, but taste decadent, and of course, animals to pet! Check out the bakery! I will be enjoying their products for a long time to come!!! https://www.strawberryblondebakery.com/ By the way, this is just my personal food-sensitive opinion 🙂 Rare is the day Lizzie (peanut-nut allergic), Katie (lactose intolerant) and I (gluten intolerant) can eat the same treats!!!

Now for the visit. This was our second time at Penny Lane. The first time we visited for a selfish reason. I wanted to see if touching and petting the animals was going to trigger my allergies. So I petted my way through the visit. The girls were more cautious. I was glad that the sniffles stayed away. Of course, like today, it was winter then too AND I washed my hands in the snow…but still…I’ll take whatever victories I can get.

This second visit was to continue our support of this wonderful sanctuary. The animals are obviously well cared for and safe to live out the rest of their lives in peace.

Lizzie socializing with a huge pig!

They care for geese, goats, sheep, horses, pigs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, llamas, donkeys and I am probably forgetting a few. All this on a beautiful property with loads of room for the animals to wander. They are planning on adding another barn to house even more rescues! Today we saw families sledding and snow-shoeing, taking advantage of the beautiful day.

Alright, so another reason for us to visit was to see how it’s done. We walked away with new ideas to pen, feed, and keep out future animals. We hope of course to give our animals the same safe and heavenly place to live, but the reality of homesteading is that some of our animals will be used for meat. This will be done as gently as possible.

Katie wants a cow! This one is just 2 weeks old.

If you look carefully at the background of this picture, you’ll see a window that leads to the outside from a barn stall. We loved the idea of a door leading outside like this allowing chickens easy access to the outdoors. Katie has been saying we’ll need to do this from the get go. I always take a little longer than I should to see her vision. Of course, she is right. It would make life easier than having to somehow get the chickens outside through the whole building.

So it was a great day shared with the girls’ boyfriends. Thanks Lizzie and Katie for the great photos! One last photo to remind us that while winter can be brutal and disruptive, it can also be incredibly beautiful. Sometimes it’s good for the soul to take a good look at its wonder.
