We candled on day 8. It wasn’t encouraging so we waited till day 10 to check again.
The run down.
Out of 14 incubated eggs, 6 were never fertile, 4 did blood rings, which means they didn’t make it far into the process, and 4 others are viable! It’s not exactly what we were hoping for, but we’ll take what we get.
If you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m talking chickens.
Sorry about the quality of the following video, but of course we have to candle in darkness. You’ll see a little chick moving around it’s cozy home.
By the way, we ordered a new candler that really worked for us.
So this candler I would recommend. It’s easy, powerful and actually worked.

At the end of this week, the chicks are going into lockdown. They will be removed from the trays and carefully placed on the bottom mesh of the incubator where they can hatch safely. We will place them so their beaks are in the correct position to be able to break out of their shells. Humidity will be kept a bit higher for them.
Hopefully we have 4 little chicks by next weekend! I’ll try to video the births and make that our first vlog.
From there, it’s a few days to moving.
We find ourselves lucky to have great friends to help us.
Blogs will start being livelier when we are finally at the new home!
