Our First Lockdown

This week has been one of ups and downs. Some of the ups include our 4 eggs that seem to be doing fine. They are in lockdown since Thursday and should hatch today! We spend a lot of time walking by the incubator and checking on them. Katie has created a brooder for them out of cardboard boxes. We will set up the lights to keep it at the correct temperature, ready to accept the little chicks.

Our fashion sense may date us but our friendship? Timeless!

My beautiful sister-in-law had surgery this week and came through like a champ. That’s a definite up! She has been a part of this family since I was a little girl. So her feeling better is very good news and a huge relief.

The downs are simple this week. Between work and home, I am getting run down. So many things are happening all at once! The girls and I are very lucky that so many people are surrounding us with their help and time. Come Friday we should have a mile long string of vehicles going between this house and the farm, moving boxes. This will make Saturday, the actually move day, go quickly. I just don’t seem to be getting as far as I’d like in packing. But like my friend Janet says, we always get it done.

I was really hoping to post our first vlog this weekend, but I have two issues. My time is a little limited and most importantly, editing is horrible on my present computer. I’ve had this computer for over 10 years. It’s so slow, I have time to pack a box between each action I ask it do to. Trying to edit video on it would be an exercise in extreme patience. I will be deciding this week if I can bite the bullet and get a new one. The very thought sends tingles down my spine!!! It would be a great addition to our new home office at the farm but the expense is a little prohibitive at this time.

By the time I write another blog, we will be at our homestead. We are all so excited! Katie is planning our fist batch of turkeys for the first week of May so that we can have some for sale in the Fall. Lizzie has named the unborn chicks (will reveal the names later). We are adding more chicks very soon, so we will need to build chicken tractors in the next few weeks. All of these adventures will involve huge learning curves for us but we are ready for the challenges.

Talk to you on the other side of the move!!
