Busy week at the farm! We’ve been here now for our third weekend. First one was the moving weekend. Last weekend was settling in a little and working in the barn. This weekend was receiving family for an Easter feast. What a treat we had! My brother Charlie gave us an awesome house warming gift. A deep fryer!!!
43 minutes to cook at 12 lb turkey. He brined it the night before. It was THE most tender and tasty turkey I’ve ever eaten, and as a rule, I make good turkey.

It was nice to show off our new home to family and friends. During the week, I started a new project. While waiting to move here, I had started decorating the house in my head. I knew I wanted a kitchen that was inviting and comfy. I wanted a space where we could discuss our plans, create new ones, leave each other reminders…a blackboard! So we painted the back wall of the kitchen in blackboard paint. 3 coats. Then we treated it as the manufacturer suggested. So after dinner, we played all sorts of games on it! Rust-oleum Chalkboard paint was easy to apply and we are having great fun being creative.

The live edge board is a wonderful gift from a friend. Perfect addition to complete the look.
During the week, we started seedlings. 14 varieties of plants. I was a little nervous. I’ve tried this before with absolutely no success. But there is hope. We actually have some little plants piercing through the earth. If the fields can start to drain, I may be able to start prepping the ground to receive these little gems.
We started squash, zucchini, cucumber, cantaloupe, watermelon, tomatoes, lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers… If I get to transplant half of what we started, this would be a success for me.

With planning our Zen room (that’s what we have taken to calling the hay loft), the dog yard, chicken tractors, gardens, and house, we are full of ideas and smiles. Last night was the first night of no rain in a while and we started a bonfire with all the brush that needed to be cleared. The girls had their boyfriends here and it was a perfect close to the day.

Without sounding maudlin, I am grateful for the all the gifts this move has already given us. We are spending more time outdoors, we are together, laughing and living every moment with more clarity and purpose. This is my slice of heaven.
This coming week will bring more plans, more work, and more laughs.
