My previous home was on the bigger side. We are presently in a townhouse. I have purged and purged for the last 4 years trying to live a lighter life. But for some reason, all the quotes we got back from moving companies have been hundreds of dollars higher than they were 4 years ago, when I had twice as much stuff. Like I’m talking a solid third more expensive for half the stuff! Ouch!
And so I purge again as I pack. It’s not easy to go through my parents things again and decide which memorabilia gets to stay and which get to leave. Seems like I’ve been doing this for years now. And I guess I have. My parents moved in with us at the end of their lives and their household moved in with them. A blessing and a curse.
Planning the move is now an exercise in organization. We have flooring installed on the day we get the keys. We need to get the flooring there! We then caravan as many boxes and loose stuff as possible. Then in the morning, the piano gets moved, hopefully before the actually movers show up. Someone needs to follow the piano to the farm. So, another caravan of stuff. The more we move, the more I save.
It has been suggested a multitude of times that we should just move everything ourselves. That is beyond my capacity. Too much heavy furniture. But mirrors, boxes, lamps, garden tools? I’m up for that.

And so what better way to spend the morning than do a little packing.
On the exciting news side of things, we ordered an incubator this week. We shopped and compared and researched. Then we found what we hope will be our chicken generator. <a href="http:////rcm-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/cm?ref=qf_sp_asin_til&t=unruffledfarm-20&m=amazon&o=15&p=8&l=as1&IS2=1&asins=B071D5GXMB&linkId=dabf3b02e8c4c01fd4a6ccd0d587e985&bc1=000000<1=_blank&fc1=333333&lc1=0066c0&bg1=ffffff&f=ifr“>http:////rcm-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/cm?ref=qf_sp_asin_til&t=unruffledfarm-20&m=amazon&o=15&p=8&l=as1&IS2=1&asins=B071D5GXMB&linkId=dabf3b02e8c4c01fd4a6ccd0d587e985&bc1=000000<1=_blank&fc1=333333&lc1=0066c0&bg1=ffffff&f=ifr
This incubator will also do quail, duck and turkey eggs. Oh the possibilities!
As soon as we receive it, we will purchase our eggs. Lizzie, the chicken girl, has given me a list of breeds she wants. These first chickens will be egg laying pets. Not food. So they will have names. We will try to have 4 varieties with this first batch. The success rates on incubated eggs varies from high to low. So many things come into play. The eggs themselves, transport of said eggs, your incubator, and I think sheer luck.
We will keep you posted with lots of pictures when we get started. If our timing is right, the birds will be born a few days after the move. It will make this whole upheaval worth it. For those of you who haven’t had the good fortune of falling in love with chickens (the live kind), I highly recommend immediate exposure to them.

Back to packing!
